Ikena

Ikena is inspired by invocation rituals, Wagner and witchcraft. I wrote its first version for the Kundry project, a collaborative art project about Kundry from the Parsifal mythos. In 2015 it was expanded and revised for singer Lisa Hansson and Performance group Hidden Mother. During the piece the singer gets the audience to sing drones and melodic loops on top of polyrhythmic percussion patterns and subtle electronic processing. Then she sings longer arias to this accompaniment. The aim of the piece is the ecstasy of rhythm and singing together. If any spirits descend amidst the audience that is a good bonus.
